Job Description
Do you love horses and working outdoors? As the Stable Hand & Groomer Intern, you’ll care for the horses every day, keep the yard, stables and tack areas clean and safe, and help get horses and equipment ready.
What you’ll do
- Muck out stalls, change bedding, and keep stables and paddocks hygienic
- Feed horses morning and evening, and keep water buckets and troughs clean and full
- Turn horses out and bring them in, leading them safely around the yard and arena
- Groom horses, pick out hooves, and do daily injury and health checks
- Tack up and untack horses, and prepare horses and equipment for lessons, including post-lesson care
- Clean and store tack, and report worn or damaged equipment
- Keep the feed rooms, tack room and arena clean, orderly and safe
- Check fences and gates daily, and report hazards or damage
- Complete the weekly deep-clean and maintenance tasks, such as feed bin cleaning, supplies inventory and first-aid kit and pest control checks
Key Requirements
- Grade 9
- Animal and nature lover with a kind, gentle and patient nature
- Great attention to detail and a trustworthy, reliable team player
- Physically fit and happy to work outside in any weather
- Puts the animals’ wellbeing first
